The Justin Eves Foundation (Charitable #88535 9620 RR 0001) has been set up for the purpose of raising and distributing funds (in the form of awards) to students with learning disabilities entering post-secondary education in the province of Ontario. |
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
The Justin Eves Foundation has directly assisted nearly 100 students in securing post-secondary education through its scholarship and bursary programs.
In order to qualify for a scholarship or bursary, candidates must be recommended by a teacher who has direct teaching experience with the student. They must also provide an assessment by a qualified psychologist documenting that they have a learning disability that meets the definition of learning disabilities accepted by the LDAO and provide proof that they have been accepted for study at a post-secondary institution. Candidates submit a personal statement outlining the programs or strategies they have participated in to help them overcome their learning disability, how those strategies have helped them, their future education and career plans, and their extracurricular activities.
Following are excerpts from letters the Foundation received from recipients of this year's bursary disbursements:
"I was overjoyed to receive the notification that your organization saw fit to award me the scholarship. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to excel in my dreams. "
David, of Toronto. David will begin first year studies in the Ryerson University Theatre Arts Production program in September 2002.
"I assure you that your generosity will not be spent in vain, but will instead work to help another student with a learning disability become successful in life. On June 26, I will be celebrating not only my high school graduation but also my future success in university with special thanks going to all of you. "
Rebecca, of Penetanguishene. Rebecca is working toward a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Waterloo and is looking forward to a career as a high school English teacher.
"Thank you so much for granting me this scholarship of The Justin Eves Foundation. It was an incredible surprise and gratifying news. "
Steven, of Cornwall. Stephen will attend St. Francis Xavier University this September. He intends to become a teacher, specializing in teaching learning disabled students.
